It doesn't get easier, you just get better. Servant leaders make their teams better by mentoring and making space for their people to grow their skills.

Leaders who are not aware of the shadow they cast may see clearly where they are going, but the entire team they are leading may be completely lost.

Leaders resist temptation to lose focus on the most important. Giving in to interruptions can become excuses to hide from performing and delivering our best work. Interruptions must be the exception; not the rule.

Can we gracefully handle disappointment? We need to resist the temptation to give in to pressure that might cause us to act out in frustration and damage people. Instead, let's choose to live our values and realize that whatever disappointment we experience is only one scene our much larger story.

While our story belongs to us, we must beware of those who would make it their own. If we are not purposeful, others will take it and rewrite it from their perspective. Fine when it is theirs to tell, but not when it is ours. Therefore, I encourage you to think hard about what belongs in our story and what doesn't.

Knowing who we are will allow us to serve our followers better. If we copy people who are not committed to our values we lose our authenticity.

Coercive leadership that makes people perform unethical acts cannot be left to run its course as it results in destroying safety, erodes our ability to influence, and puts our credibility at risk.
